Virtue
Virtue is not simply an avoidance of evil deeds; it is the
active pursuit of good. Because of the subjectivity of the human consciousness, it
is not possible for one man to measure another's virtue, though we may admire and
strive to emulate those whom we deem particularly morally conscientious.
I note, also, that virtue does not preclude pleasure; joy is the serious business of
Heaven. But so that we may prove ourselves worthy in
the eyes of God,
it is necessary to remain mindful of those whom we might help, and to aid those
who suffer.
