She is a hag, an evil faerie, a cruel step-mother: the embodiment of evil, vicarious and cruel. She vexes sleep to nightmare and coaxes thorns to brambles. It was her poison that began the matter - the apple, she is quite certain that it was the apple that she offered her that sent her dreaming 'til awakened by her suitor. She saw the reason for this malfeasance in the witch's eyes: she sought to have the prince herself.
