What is Navigate?

According to the American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition, 2000, navigate is a verb that describes the action of:

1. To plan, record, and control the course and position of (a ship or aircraft).

2. To follow a planned course on, across, or through.

3. To control the course of a ship or aircraft.

4. To voyage over water in a boat or ship; sail.

5a. To make one's way: navigated with difficulty through the crowd.

5b. (Informal) To walk: He was too unsteady on his legs to navigate.
