Act II, scene ii is a short scene in which Malvolio, Olivia's servant, follows after Viola (disguised as Cesario) because his lady has asked him to return a ring to Cesario. Viola/Cesario is confused because although he is coming from an interview with Olivia, he did not give her a ring. Viola had met with Olivia as a go-between to express her master Orsinio's love for Olivia. When Viola is "returned" a ring that she never gave, she realizes that it is a gift from Olivia who has fallen in love with her masculine disguise.
