"Masculinity" and "femininity" have traditionally been mutually exclusive. That is, the notions of woman and man have existed independently of one another. Up till now, combining man with woman has resulted in little more than parody (Bordo 19). Think of attempts to merge woman with man - the Bionic Woman on TV, even transsexuals and transvestites, to some extent. The result is always a joke, a ridiculed diversion.
