Feminists say that the public and private spheres are interrelated because men dominate both (Pateman 117). In effect, our individual lives are tangled into our collective lives. If we change one sphere, the other is affected. So if we modify the family structure by men doing more share of the parenting, the public sphere will be changed, since men will presumably be spending more time in the private realm and less time in the public one.
