The Matrix  As a complement to Gibson's Sprawl, there exists a far more attractive, even addictive, space of non-reality. The Matrix: A virtual city in the non-reality of cyberspace, similar to the cyberspace presented in Snow Crash. The matrix is an essential component within the lives of those inhabitants of the Sprawl. It is the intellectual zone. It is a place of communication and discovery and information. And even though it"s only a virtual city, the Matrix is compiled of defining landmarks. Ironically, the Matrix can offer more in the way of architecture and building than the physical city of the Sprawl. The Matrix might be defined as architecturally structured information. Just as their names imply: the Sprawl is no more than an untidy sprawling mass of string and webwork, whereas the Matrix is ordered, organized and electronically beautiful.
