BIOGRAPHY

Gregory Dale Bear [1951-]

Bear was born on August 20th, 1951, in San Diego, California. His father, Dale Franklin Bear, was a navel officer. His mother, Wilma Merriman, was a secretary. Due to his father's profession, Bear traveled a great deal as a child. He started writing at age 8, and sold his first short story at age 15.

Bear was educated at San Diego State University, and received his A.B. in 1969. He has married twice, first to Christina Nielsen (1975), and then to Astrid Anderson (1983).

The majority of Bear's work lies within the realm of science fiction, yet he is also an experience illustrator and freelance journalist. His main interests include astronomy, physics, and history, though he also dabbles in mythology and religion. His novel Blood Music, which was broadcast as a radio play by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, is perhaps best known for its association with the cyberpunk genre.

His last known place of residence is somewhere in Washington state.
