THEMES / CONCEPTS
Here a few terms that make themselves
apparent in the beginning of Crashcourse. A complete
list will evolve over time (as I have a chance to reread the
trilogy).
- ORBITAL SOCIETY [p.11]:
The object is to scrounge enough money to make it
off-planet. Very Blade Runner.
- THE SPRAWL: The Strip:
Basically we're talking about the Sprawl here, and the
life one might live trying to survive in such a dump.
- SIMSTIM: Film (Cyber-Cinema)
[p.35+]: Living artificial lives, like film but more
personal. And unscripted, for a more natural real-life
feel. And dangerous, especially if your employer wishes
to make your life extra exciting (but doesn't want to
tell you, since that would lessen the emotional impact).
- CRIMINAL ORGANIZATIONS:
Once again the underworld comes into play. One could
throw into this category the underhanded nature of the
high-and-mighty corporation, who can get away with
murder. And also the lower class street thug / Strip gang
which may possess power and resources on a comparable
scale.
