POST-WAR [p.104]: This is a nation
recovering from a rather severe war. The cause: China,
which was in severe economic decline, decided to take
over Biotek Africa, a corporation that had just developed
viable wetware --biological circuitry. Governments did
not (could not) send troops, but corporations did (thus
proving that they were the ones in control). As one
character says, "The big governments collapsed, and
the corporations just sort of took up the slack."
