the Dive: Diversifications, Inc. Manny and Gabe's employer, and something of a looming entity throughout the book.

Dr. Fish: A near-ubiquitous virus; unlike most virii, it does not destroy data, but instead alters it to add officious but benevolent commentary. For example, a fast food chain's electronic display is altered to suggest that burgers and coffee are unhealthy.

hit-and-run: A floating drug party. From the act of trying to arrive, score drugs, and depart from the location before the police arrive.

socket: The neural implant that allows one greater access to the visual centers of one's brain, in addition to playing prerecorded "dreams".

synner: From "synthesizer." Those who create, via computer simulation and video-editing equipment, highly detailed music videos.
