Filter

Particularly in this day and age where there is an information overload, the author function helps us filter the trash. Some of us would read a website if it was .edu and not bother with a website even though itís materials were relevant if it was .geocities.com.

The problem with this author function as a mean of filtering is that it limits our reading to certain preconceived notions of the author we already have. Whilst when we read an anonymous text, we read it with more awareness and an open mind, deciphering it according to our own level of intellect.
