Well, you've come to the end of my web. I don't know how you've gotten here, what you've read and haven't read, whether you will go on to read more after this. In fact, it actually doesn't matter to me.
From the fiction to the criticism, I've presented you with a wealth of choices. In this sense you are not unlike me--I've had to make choices as to what to include and how to include it, and as to how I would interpret what I selected. Now the choices are yours. You read what you like, understand things in any way that makes sense to you. And yet, you cannot ignore my existence. None of these words could have arrived here for your viewing without me, the author and scribe. Not all of the ideas are mine, not even all of the writing styles--but I leave it up to you to discover my workings, to try to understand the choices I made.
This is why I chose the yin-yang symbol to open my presentation. This is a symbol of many things--of duality, balance, order, and underlying harmony despite superficial appearance of disharmony or chaos. And this is how I picture our relationship. For just as I exist in a wealth of codes, as Barthes would have me, so too do you. I ask not for ignorance of each other, but in the spirit of hypertext and brotherhood, a coming together, a continual challenge to create and recreate each other. In this way the author lives on, even after the (re) birth of the reader.
