In this binary opposition of mind/body, hardware/software, spiritual/physical, our identity is broken up into a paradigm of Information and Medium. As Information, our minds can be understood as mutable, communicable, augmentable, and ethereal. They can also be understood as distributed and dislocated, for information in the cyber- is an eternally morphing entity with no mass or space.
In the cyber-, our bodies are not opposite to our minds, but are closely linked and influence the software that is carried on it's hardware. The abilities of the hardware is seen as defining the limits of the software; the more power in the machine, the more well-rendered the avatar.
This runs severely in contrast with Descartes.
