Just a few examples of metaphors used in computing: * computer applications use a window metaphor * "surf the net" * go to such and such a site -- when we "go to" a Web site in Japan, do we really get on a plane and fly there? * copy, paste, and cut text * throw a file into the trash can * move a file from one folder to another -- the file doesn't move, the pointer does * "guides" that help us with routine tasks and hide us from the computer's complexity
