Hypertexts can be so refreshingly metaphorical in their layout.

I recently saw one with an overview that looked like a football field and links that represented the scoreboard. Then there was the web on disorientation, where you click blindly on a fuzzy-looking overview and travel to some random writing space.

These interesting designs and layouts contribute to the value of the hypertext, and are a liberating departure from the conformity of traditional books.
