On Creating...

Real hypertext literature is as tricky to predict as it is to define. So I'll simply give a few examples and hope that that suffices:

• Joyce's Afternoon
• Moulthrop's Victory Garden
  
  
• Imagine the multivocal nature of Faulkner's As I Lay Dying, but digital. You can, for example, follow one character's train of thought as far as you'd like, completely skipping over other characters. Or not. It's your choice.
  
  
• Imagine the subtle integration of images and text, in which images do not simply support or accentuate the written word, but complement and perhaps undermine it.
  
  
• Sound, too. Imagine ambient music that weaves itself throught the text, changing and adapting itself to the text (and/or images) it accompanies. Something like my upcoming web.
