(Multimedia. The Word.)
I really, really hesitate to use this word.
Multimedia.
It has truly become the catchword of the 90s, and in fact, it makes me sick
just to write it. But as much of a cliche as it has become, there is really
no other way to convey the absolute power of the computer over any other
form of entertainment in the industry. Computers, unlike novels, allow motion
video, sound, and hypertextual links (to name just a few of its capabilities).
Computers, unlike film, allow genuine audience interactivity. It is for
this reason that the word multimedia is critical here, despite its blatant
overuse in the past several years.
