26 years ago, Bob Klahn applied for a summer position at Holiday Valley’s golf course.  All summer long, he didn’t hear anything.  On January 1st the next year, he got a call at 11 am asking if he might be interested in making snow.
“When do I start?” he asked.

“Right now, if you can.”  Bob still lives in East Otto, 15 minutes from Ellicottville (more if it snowed last night and you have to scrape off your car).  As he moved up to his current position as shift supervisor, he watched as technology improved the job he loved.  “It used to be that snowmaking was a necessary evil, it wasn’t as good as natural snow, but you still needed to have it.  In the past, different crews didn’t even talk to each other because it was so hard to communicate, being out on the slopes just with your team.  Snowmobiles and radios have changed the way we do things.”
