A very brief lexicon of popular snowboard slang:

Rail: A wooden or metal structure, usually with some sort of ridge, curved or otherwise, upon which snowboarders or skiers may “grind” or “jam”

Boneless: to ride with one foot unstrapped, usually placed in the center of the board between the two bindings

Switch: to ride with the non-dominant foot facing forward, useful in approaching or landing jumps

Hankie: similar to a bandana, worn around the neck, or occasionally, over the nose and mouth

Bus kid: a much hated species of tourist, most prevalent on “ski club” nights, typically Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday

Gayper: any skiing adult, especially one who lacks proficiency or uses antiquated equipment
