This feeling of a lack of connection, of a lack
of consequences, is intimately tied to cybersex, especially in today's
dangerous sexual landscape. Back to my ex-girlfriend:
she felt that because the happenings of the chatroom, where she engaged
in unspeakable acts with people from Kansas, Greece, and Canada, was so
far removed from her "real" life in Chicago that her cybersex should be
equated with nothing more than reading pornographic novels, (not that this
in itself is not a questionable act). To her the other people involved
were nothing more than vehicles toward her own pleasure. I on the other
hand, equated her mental attitude, her mental unfaithfulness, with a betrayal
as real as if she had had an affair. Needless to say, I was heartbroken.
