The Same Thing
Does a hypertext text
always say the same thing
? Does the process of reading multilinearly change what a text says?
One hypertextual reading may seem to emphasize one point, another day and
another reading may emphasize another element, and bring a reader across a
previously missed lexia. Still, the text depends on the reader to bring
it to life. Even more than a print book, a hypertext web disappears when it
is not read, because it literally disappears when it is closed into a space only
visible to the computer's hard drive.
