NEXUS 6 Replicants: Limitations & Advantages
The Tyrell Corporation's state of the art robots, the NEXUS 6 Replicants are indistinguishable from real humans, to the extent that a special test had to be created to tell them apart.
The NEXUS 6 Replicants were superior in strength and agility, and at least equal in intelligence, to the genetic engineers who created them.
Replicants were used Off-world as slave labor, in the hazardous exploration and colonization of other planets.
After a bloody mutiny by a NEXUS 6 combat team in an Off-world colony, Replicants were declared illegal on earth - under penalty of death.
Special police squads - BLADE RUNNER UNITS - had orders to shoot to kill, upon detection, any trespassing Replicant.
This was not called execution.
It was called retirement. — Blade Runner, 1982.
These robots are not merely as good as ordinary humans; they manage to surpass their very designers. They have emotions (we particularly witness their fear as they are hunted), they bleed and die when you shoot them, and they are even sexual. Despite all this, they have one incredible shortcoming by design. They live for exactly four years, and no more.
